What does this mean to  you? Right off the bat you probably think, “Oh, it’s just a fake check to make me thing this chick makes a lot of money.” But what if I told you that I didn’t put it here to make you believe anything, just to think? Would you believe me? Well, to make it short and sweet, this is how I keep myself on track. Corny as it may be, I use it as a tool - a visualization tool to help me stay focused on my monthly goal. You see, we as humans are visual creatures. We don’t comprehend or believe most things until we can see them. Very few of us go on faith alone these days. So when you’re trying to reach a goal, it helps to visualize exactly what that goal will look & feel like. This check represents money, and a LOT of it! This is my new monthly goal. Sure, I could have just as easily stuck an image of a big pile of money, a fancy car or big, expensive house up here. But there is a big difference between this check and all of those things. Know what it is? Well I won’t tell you just yet, I’ll let you sit and think about it for a minute while I move on.

I have realized something about myself. When it comes to my EDC Gold & EDC Diamond businesses, I get off track easily when I don’t have a clear goal in mind. I don’t make as much money, and I feel as if I have no direction. Judging by some of the comments and discussions I’ve been seeing online, I’d says this is true for many other members as well (especially brand new members). Goals are what keep us focused and accountable for our actions (or lack of). But it’s not just enough to have goals. There are several factors which go into the goal-setting process that can be the difference in failure or success. Your goals should be clear and specific, not broad & general. They should also be realistic for your situation. It’s not enough just to want to make money. You need to know how much you want or need to make to reach a certain plateau, what it will look like, where it will come from, even that it’s coming to YOU specifically and not someone else. You also need to be careful not to set too many goals at one time. This has been my problem with EDC Gold & EDC Diamond. Up to this point, I have been trying to do too many things at once. This causes me to be constantly scatter-brained, and to feel like I’m always behind and need to catch up. Using broad visuals like a big house or fancy car have been causing me to think too far into the future instead of focusing on the here & now. One big pile of money does not help me to define exactly how much I need or want to make to move on to the next level of success.  So this new visualization tool is really helping me to settle and focus on one goal at a time.

So what’s the difference between my check and those other things I mentioned? It’s simple…the check represents money, clearly defines how much money I’m looking to make ($10k), where it will come from (EDC Gold & Diamond), even who it is meant for (me specifically) and what time frame (today’s date, a recent date). It gives a clear and decided path for my goal, and helps me to visualize it every day. I’ve even printed it out a few times and posted it in places where I’ll see it several times a day, every day! Now that I know exactly what I want, I’ll be constantly reminded of it (and where it will come from), so that I can keep on task.

Because it’s a picture, it elicits certain feelings that words or thoughts alone cannot conjure up. Seeing the check makes me feel happy, proud, accomplished, empowered…and I associate those feelings with the goal I have set for an even more powerful effect. So it’s not just seeing the goal, it’s understand what that image means to me, and how it will make me feel once it is accomplished. It’s the most powerful kind of motivation your mind can muster because the more you start seeing and feeling, the more you start believing…and the more you believe it, the easier it is to achieve it!

I have worked with countless EDC Gold & Diamond members, some on my team and some not. One of the things I used to do in the beginning was to have them define their goals, what they hoped to accomplish with these home business opportunities. What I found is that most used more general visualizations for their goals, such as a picture of their family, a home they wanted to buy, a car they wanted, maybe even a place they wanted to visit. These are all great, but don’t help your mind to settle on one clear goal. So your family is your motivation, but what about them? What is it your want for them? How do you plan to get it and where do you plan to get it from? What will it do for them and how will it make them feel? There are just too many directions you can go with a broad visualization like that. If you’re trying to save for your child’s college fund, envision the actual college you want them to be able to go to (or that you want to be able to afford). If you’re trying to retire early, envision what it is that is so important to you about retirement. This helps you get down to your passion, and provides the fuel you need to work this business diligently and consistently.

The Stay at Home Moms I know aren’t just the type of women who lounge around the house all day, or gossip on the phone 24/7. No, those days of the “housewife” are long gone. In fact, most Stay at Home mothers that I know work harder than those who have jobs or other obligations. One friend of mine, who has one child and stays at home full-time, told me she’d honestly rather work a job as it’s less of a work load, but she feels it’s important to stay at home with her son. A strong conviction, but perhaps not the easiest thing to do in today’s economy.

You work hard, keep the house clean, make sure the kids are fed, taken to school and extracurricular activities, helped with their homework, and get to bed on time. If all that isn’t enough, you’re working to make sure the clothes are washed, dried and ironed, the bills paid, and your husband kept happy. But even with all that work, a lot of families become emotionally and financially strained from less income coming into the house. That same friend I mentioned is currently not doing so well in her marriage. You see, even though she does all of this, she feels unappreciated. Why? Because there is no financial proof that what she’d doing is helping the family survive. The burden of earning is left to her husband, who goes to work 6 days a week and works extra-long hours, bitter that she has the opportunity to stay at home and live “free” while he works his but off for less pay than he’s worth. He knows she keeps the house in order, but when time comes to pay the bills or by new clothes and school supplies for the kids, it’s a different story; it just looks like she’s not contributing. The result is that they barely speak anymore, never eat dinner together, he works so much that he barely sees the kids and the vision she had of staying home to make things better for the family has turned into just the opposite. I know this is happening in more families than theirs. Perhaps not to the degree of their troubles, but it is still happening to families with Stay at Home Moms all over the world!

But it doesn’t have to be like this. The exact circumstances I mentioned above are why home business makes such good sense for a Stay at Home Mom. Chances are, women who’ve chosen to stay at home have not always done so. Most had jobs, even successful careers in the past. And even though staying at home seems like a great sacrifice to pull the family together, somewhere in the back of their minds many Stay at Home Moms still long for the working world. Why, because it makes them feel useful. They have a chance to use the skills they spent most of their lives learning. They get to interact with other people, help others solve problems. There is an article from CNNMoney.com that describes the downfall of the subprime lending industry, and how even executives who’ve been used to earning six-figure incomes are suffering. The couple they described worked for the US. #2 subprime lender up until last summer, when the company folded and went under within 2 months. Both husband and wife, used to each earning six-figure incomes and having accumulated over $10k a month in bills, were suddenly both out of work and trying to survive on less than $2k a month in income. This story, and the hundreds of others like it, are just a few examples of the kind of instability the current economy poses, particularly for executives used to a certain standard of living. Even major institutions are becoming more fearful in the current market, with major economists stating that this time around, markets are the problem and not the economy. As one featured article from Fortune Magazine put it today, “…markets are harder to fix than the economy.”

Retirement plans and investments also aren’t what they once were. For most executives, unless they have worked, even in the good seasons, to recession-proof their investments, incomes and futures, they are suffering much like the rest of Corporate America. It is at this time that executives are looking for a more sound investment, a way to recession-proof their finances in order to maintain their current standard of living for their families. So to make a long story short, I spent a little over 2 months working through a process that was centered around specific products, tools and techniques from EDC Gold & EDC Diamond to build a solid web presence for this new business.
